Season of the Were
I suppose it's following the storyline of Club Dead, since the wolves are abound and Alcide pops up to protect Sookie.

Lafayette tells it like it is.
As for the tv show, first season is a'ight. But second season is 10 times better, altho I could do with less orgies and bleeding heart casseroles. Thus, I'm all in for season three. But I think it's really because of Lafayette that kept my interest piqued. After watching the latest "True Blood" minisode, he's definitely the most enjoyable character (after that is the hot as hell Eric played by Alexander Skarsgard).
In this minisode, Tara gets downright nasty with Sookie, which is fun cos when isn't a verbal catfight not entertaining (see all ANTM cycles). But it's Lafayette coming in to tell them what's what (basically they're trippin'), a smile is brought to my face. On the downside, Anna Paquin, bless her heart, tries to do that southern accent thing but fails miserably. I frown every time I hear it before realizing there's nothing to be done.
Check out the mini-ep below and see for yourself.

Top of the Pops: My haphazard list of 2008 favorite pop items
Movies
1. The Dark Knight. I loved it from start to finish. Batman voice and all. The scene where he flips a semi over the Joker is cinematic bliss. The sound design, the cinematography, Heath Ledger's acting, it all just came together. It exceeded my own personal hype and that's saying something.
2. Let the Right One In. This film was amazing. So subtle and engaging. Despite the violence, this was a tender love story of two lost souls coming together.
3. Slumdog Millionare. Just see it, mmmkay.
4. Iron Man. RDJ still has that magic touch. I thought it was gonna be another throwaway comic book movie. Boy was I wrong. It was entertaining from start to finish, even with Gwenyth Paltrow as the female lead.
5. In Bruges. I re-watched this on xmas. Colin Farrell excels in this black comedy. Who knew he could be funny? But the film isn't just about humor, it's about atoning for what you've done and realizing life doesn't end up as planned.
Honorable Mentions: The Fall, Forgetting Sarah Marshall
TV
1. "The Wire" - Best crime drama ever!
2. "Doctor Who" - There's a good reason it's the longest running tv series.
3. "30 Rock" - MILF Island. That is all.
4. "Venture Bros"
5. "Stargate: Atlantis" - Yeah, I'm a sci-fi geek. But seriously, give it a chance.
6. "Lost" - I was substantiantly less angry at the tv this season.
Honorable Mentions: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "True Blood", "Law & Order", "Supernatural", "The Office"
Albums (.i.e cds I actually made an effort to buy)
1. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours. They're one of my fave bands, so not too surprising they're my number one pick.
Key Tracks: "Out there on the Ice", "Far Away", and "Unforgettable Season"
2. Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires. This is my 2008 new music discovery. I'd listened to their cover of "Your Love" for over a year. Then, they got sorta lost in the noise. On a whim, I went to see them open up for The Virgins. Needless to say, I was blown away. These guys have tight, funky and dance-electric set that kept me coming back for more (4x so)!
Key Tracks: "Jump in the Pool", "Paris", and "White Diamonds".
3. The Presets - Apocalypso. More musical genius from down under! My birthday gift to my best friend was tix to their gig at the Glasshouse. After two songs, she was an instant fan. These guys are professional electronic music artists. This album is techno/electro perfection. They pump you up from start to finish. Forget Justice, it's all about these synth heroes.
Key Tracks: "My People", "A New Sky", "Kicking and Screaming"
4. Does it Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea... These fellas got me excited for dance rock again. Remember that first time you heard "Banquet", but had no idea who sung that song, but you were determined to find out. That's how it was with me and DIOYY. And then I heard "Dawn of the Dead". Game, set, match. Fan for life.
Key Tracks: "Dawn of the Dead", "Let's Make Out", "We Are Rockstars"
5. Santogold – Santogold. I waited for this album with baited breath. See this girl in concert and you'll find out quick she's no M.I.A. imitator. She's the real deal. She'll make you her dance slave and be your electronic queen. For real, son.
Key Tracks: "Creator", "L.E.S. Artistes", "You'll Find a Way"
6. M83- Saturdays=Youth. I was always a bit "meh" about M83. Thought it was too instrumental. Saturdays = Youth changed my tune with a quickness. Mr. Gonzales reminds you that singles are good, but albums are better. It's a cohesive blend of gentle, synth melodies and distortion that are searching for memories of days gone by.
Key Tracks: "We Own the Sky", "Kim & Jessie"
7. Ladyhawke – Ladyhawke
8. TV on the Radio - Dear Science
9. The Teenagers - Reality Check
10. Lykke Li - Youth Novels EP
Honorable Mentions: Jamie Lidell - JIM, Hot Chip - Made in the Dark, Bloc Party - Intimacy, Hercules & Love Affair
Singles (I make no apologies for a good tune)
1. "Dawn of the Dead" – Does it Offend You, Yeah?
2."Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)" – Beyonce
3. "Sex on Fire" – Kings of Leon
4. "American Boy" – Estelle featuring Kanye
5. "Dance Wiv Me" – Dizzee Rascal featuring Calvin Harris
6. "Day n Nite" Crookers Remix – Kid Cudi

8. "I'm Good, I'm Gone" – Lykke Li
9. "Far Away" – Cut Copy
10. "Jump in the Pool" – Friendly Fires

20. "Blind" – Hercules & Love Affair
21. "Little Bit of Feel Good" – Jamie Lidell
22. "Hip Hop Saved My Life"/"Superstar" – Lupe Fiasco
23. "Kim & Jesse" Montag Remix – M83
24. "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your BF How To Dance With You" – Black Kids
25. "This Boy's in Love" – The Presets
Honorable Mentions:, "Mrs. Officer" - Lil Wayne feat Bobby Valentino, "Golden Age" - TVOTR, "Love No" - The Teenagers, "Heartbreak" - Metronomy, "4 Minutes" – Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake, "Damaged" – Danity Kane, "Vanished" – Crystal Castles, "Electric Feel" Justice Remix - MGMT
Happy NYE! I hope 2009 is better than 2008.

Hellboy 2 - Out Today
Check his hilarious tv spot with NBC's "Chuck".
Definitely will be seeing this instead of that terrible Meet Dave.
If you're unfamiliar with the first movie, you can still enjoy the second. But watching the first flick couldn't hurt.

You're Frellin' Right
Another reason, amongst many, why I love Pajiba!
Thanks for making me feel okay to be a geek. "Farscape" is the best sci-fi show I’ve seen in the last 20 years hands down. "FireFly" and those Whedon worshippers can go suck it. Even Empire Magazine recognizes Farscape's greatness!
I do have to admit that "Farscape" was lucky to have the four seasons that it got. Nevertheless, I was devastated when it was cancelled. I even boycotted Battlestar Galactica (kinda still am) because it had a hand in Farscape’s cancellation. At least, SciFi softened the cancellation blow with a mini-series wrap up ("The Peacekeeper Wars").
And if you check the comments, looks like Ben Browder landed on his feet okay (despite Stargate SG1 also being cancelled) and is producing a new show for SciFi channel!

Those outfits are H-O-T!
I love how none of them really address the silver paint on Charlie's face nor the fact that Dennis is wearing a body leotard. After seeing that Glenn Howerton wrote the story for this episode, I realized that he himself is making his character Dennis essentially gayer each episode? Strange, but hilarious!

McNulty is the shit
I agree with the TV Whore's sentiments wholeheartedly, January is gonna be awesome. Now, if they could just start airing season 4 on HBO on demand, then I'm all set.

No more Murphy?

And I was just thinking about the show after spotting Valerie Cruz, who plays Detective Murphy, at World Market last week. She was just hanging around looking at jewelry, when I saw her. I thought to myself, "Hey there goes Murphy! She shops too." She seems very nice. I simply asked her if she needed any help, and she politely said she was all good.
I descended into a deep depression this morning since I heard of the cancellation. I scoured SciFi.com for any official confirmation, to no avail. And I discovered that Mr. Dresden himself is a Briton! Are all actors these day from the UK? Paul Blackthorne (Dresden) is even an accomplished photographer. So naturally, since he's so dashing and talented, he's already got a spot on the new show "Big Shots" on ABC. I guess I'll just have to console myself his new role.

His chemistry with Bob was the best part of the show, and now it's gone. And somehow "Charmed" was on for like five or six seasons? The comraderie between the sisters (and half sisters) left alot to be desired. Oh well, that's television for ya. Can't keep a good thing for very long.

Just the two of us

I wonder how many eps it will take before we get the truth behind why Haim sold his teeth on ebay... Now that's an advertisement for the wonders of ebay, if I ever saw one.
Actually, it's been so long I almost forgot the show was even coming out. But a late night stop to Fatburger reminded me. LNDSML and me were just recovering from the Spoon secret show at Little Radio.
So we're buzzed on Dewars, to say the least, we're in a dancey mood. We drift over to the jukebox, which can't stop playing the latest song by T-pain (boo!). I attempt to change the song and find ads for the tv show starring America's favorite Coreys plastered all over the menu. They even had a 5 question quiz, which I scored a 4 outta 5. I was drunk, and it took me a minute to realize that the Haim-ster was the Canadian one!
Feeling somewhat vindicated with my score, I go home (food in hand, of course) to watch some Venture Bros and pass out. Too bad, License to Drive wasn't on, then I woulda been glued to the tube.

Homer is a genius!

"The Simpsons" mania is ramping up, and I think I like it. Check out The Sun to find a pretty good compilation of jokes from the show. This movie is gonna blow my mind (hopefully).
Here are my favorites from the list:
Homer: Just once I'd like someone to call me 'Sir' without adding 'You're making a scene.'
Homer: Don't you ever, EVER talk that way about television.
Homer: That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college!
Homer: I'm in no condition to drive...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk!
Homer: Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try
Homer: Here's to alcohol, the cause of—and solution to—all life's problems.
Homer: I want to share something with you: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number 1: Cover for me. Number 2: Oh, good idea, boss! Number 3: It was like that when I got here.
Bart: There's no such thing as a soul. It's just something they made up to scare kids, like the boogeyman or Michael Jackson.

Simpsons Trailer Alert
It actually looks pretty awesome. The animation is crisp and innovative. I'm not the biggest fan of the show, nor do i hate it by any means. I just don't own it or ever watch it on my own time. I'm usually stuck at someone's house killing time or doing illicit substances. I just go where the day takes me.

Confession of the week

It's simply fantastic. If you can't find humor in this show, I don't want to know you. It's seriously hilarious.
The best writing I've seen yet was in this scene with a rogue female cop in episode two. She has these high waisted jeans, which were tight as all get out. She tries to justify why she's taken up with her drug dealing, murdering boyfriend, Johnny (mind you who has just murdered her partner). "[Johnny's] like a drug...like a needle in my arm!" That's just golden.

'Lost' in the Future?
Jack in the future?! I just won't believe it. I think it was a vision of what the future might be if they left the island. The writers are trying to put in that seed of doubt on whether leaving the island is indeed the answer for the survivors. Clearly, it's not the right turn of events for Jack. The episode is named "Through the looking Glass" making it seem like the island works in its own time bubble or something and only breaks through at certain moments. But that wouldn't explain how Ben keeps in contact with the outside world. And that Penny woman's transmission made it through no problem after the jamming device was turned off.
And who the hell is in that casket? I assumed Jack was in Australia going to his father's funeral, guess not after watching the rest of the episode. And yes that fucking Motorola KRZR phone was a dead giveaway that this flashback was a bit unusual. I'm betting on Ben, since no one bothered to come to the funeral.
What's most likely is that Naomi woman lied and the wreckage of the plane was never found. She just wanted to manipulate the survivors into trusting her as the only way off the island. Thus, into the clutches of more nefarious enemies than Ben and the Others. Locke is now "one" with the island and/or Jacob and knew she was evil, thus he despatched her via knife. That would correspond with Charlie's revelation that Penny didn't send that boat.
It's just this flashback/forward nonesense. It's just like they threw in Desmond at the end of last season. Gotta go and throw a curve ball as soon as shit starts making sense. Well, I for one am relieved that I won't be discussing this nonesense for the next nine months. It can be so time-consuming. I spent at least an hour sifting through the comments on PopCandy trying to get closure. Why? I have no idea, since there's no one out there with the ultimate Answers.
I'm just look forward to a summer full of F/X originals and reclaim the peace of mind I had pre-"Lost". Can't wait for "Rescue Me" on June 13th. My tivo is ready for some Denis Leary.

Only 48 agonizing episodes to go

It was pretty sweet that Sawyer got to kill that guy. Revenge is a bitch.

Top 5 shows
"And if you don’t watch television at all, well: Good for you. You’re a role model to us all. A guiding light in the sky. A beacon of good taste. Now, move along. We’re not interested in your holier-than-thou television eschewing. Seriously, beat it. Go destroy a TV or something. "

I feel ashamed sometimes when I get all caught up talking about some show with someone who's not into television. Like I have to apologize for liking quality entertainment that may not be released in some sort of theatrical presentation. If it makes you happy, it can't be all that bad (right, Sheryl?).
My top five shows that I Tivo:
Silent Witness
Lost (i know, i know...)
The Shield
Heroes
Stargate Atlantis
Others shows I watch:
The Dresden Files, Medium, Psych (that James Roday is sorta dumb-hot), The Unit, Jake 2.0, Robin Hood (BBC), 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, Nip/Tuck, Deadwood, Sopranos, Entourage (only on demand tho).
Alot of people had Degrassi on their list. If only I had a real TiVo that could tape over 40 hours. I'd be in heaven! I wonder what's on other people's TiVo, like a real honest list.

"Prayer" on Letterman
I love Kele's Aaliyah t-shirt. He wore that when I saw them last month. They seemed kinda serious, but the performance was solid.
Thanks, Blog Party for russelling up the clip.

Are you trying to ruin my 80s memories?
Maybe the bitch is cranky in the morning. Hell, I would be if you poured a drink on me. But did we get his side? Not yet. Maybe she was cheating on him. Plus, he never actually beat the girl. Can't we downgrade this as a misdemeanor? I would.

The Lost Room

I finally got around to watching "The Lost Room", a mini-series from SCI FI Channel. I only made it through parts 1 & 2. It is like 6 hours long, which is pretty hard to do in one sitting. Still, it was very engaging.
It started out sort of slow, with a mystery angle. It's all about ordinary "objects" that contain special powers. The main "object" is the motel room key, which lands in the lap of Joe Miller (Peter Krause). This key opens any door and leads into this ghostly lit motel room, room 10 to be exact. Only catch is, at this motel in the real world: there is no room 10. It's like it never existed. There's just this magical key for a room that doesn't exist anymore. And as a bonus, once inside the room, you can open the door and go anywhere in the world. Anywhere that has a door that is.
The series is a quest for Joe to find his daughter who disappeared into the room. If you have the key, you are protected while the room resets. But if you go inside without the key and someone closes the door. Poof! You disappear. To where, no one really knows for sure. So Joe must start collecting the other "objects" to figure out how to save his kid. Because when you get objects together weird shit starts happening. And there are crazy cults out to steal the objects.
I'm still thinking about how freaky the whole story is. It's very thought out. And the acting is actually pretty good. And Spud from Trainspotting even has a part in it. He has the "comb", which stops time. He's all geeky in it. I love it.
If you missed it, catch it on dvd on April 3rd. I have no idea why the hell it takes 4 months to release it. But it's definitely something for your netflix queue at the very least.

Divorce still going strong in 2007

Her ex was pretty cute. He was the "hot priest" in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, according to IMDB. And he played the dead friend in The Chumscrubber, which is a good movie btw.

Hooray, one more break-up because the wife was more successful than her counterpart. I bet he wishes "Lost" never got popular.

Gotta get me some 'DayBreak'

This shit is good and addictive. I swept through the first 4 eps in a day. I like Taye Diggs when he gets all angry. No, seriously, it's pretty good.
I like the Groundhog Day plot device. "It's the same day!" every episode. And Brett Hopper (Diggs), comes bad with whatever he learned the "day" before. Also, if he gets hurt physically (like getting shot), it carries over. Sucks to be him, basically. Brett is accused of murder, being a murder for hire actually; he is framed as killing an Assistant DA (who we never see). And he must confess to it or these "people" are gonna kill his GF Rita and possibly his entire family (see: sister and two kids). His partner takes a bullet for him one time, then in the next episode she kills her boyfriend. You really never know what to expect next from the writers, which is good. It's like what I used to like about "Lost". Except it's done with some respect to the viewer. They don't go all crazy and throw another island at ya or another cast of survivors (who deem utterly worthless by season 3!).
Brett's love interest, Rita, played rather well by Moon Bloodgood, is not annoying at all . Brett's sister on the other hand sucks. This is no Vanished-level acting chops. We've got the real deal here. And Brett's partner, the dirty cop with a heart of gold, Andrea is also excellently played. The show has got a good bunch of people. Oh and did I mention he's doing the head of Internal Affairs ex-wife. Way to go and make a bunch of enemies. That character is played by Adam Baldwin, the one everybody always forgets about. That's cause he doesn't suck.
I also like that they don't write the episode as simply one day. There can be 2-3 days in one episode, already bounds over "Lost". And the action can end with a cliff-hanger sometimes, but it is wrapped up by the end of the next episode. The action that is. The overlying conspiracy: that's a whole other issue.
I'm telling ya folks. You're missing out. Gotta get in there and catch up. (All eps are online.)
